TESTING TESTING: VIGNETTE ABSTRACTIONS

5 moodboards made for the vignette abstractions workshop (Colours,Computers,Games,Mellow and Pixels)next step is to analyse these moodboards and take notes…

analysis of moodboards and planing for vignettes. finding alot of relations with video games, pixel art and colour palettes.

Starting with the mellow animation, i created 58 frames using procreate and exported an animation to import into after effects (AE). Looking back at this animation it doesn’t give me the feeling of mellow when i watch it so i will see if i can adjust in AE by decreasing the frame rate or looping a section of the footage and using tools within AE to compliment the loop and create a more mellow feel

I was unsuccessful in creating a mellow feel using just the animation and overlay effects however i used masks and loops as well as the use of blur tools and other effects seen in the images attached to this post. i am still not 100% pleased with this vignette; however, i cannot waste any more time on one vignette i will have to come back if there is time.

Next up i got to work on the colours vignette, I decided to do this one from start to finish in after effects (AE) as I haven’t used AE to create animations from scratch I would be good practice to learn and improve. The Keywords for this vignette were PSYCHEDELIC and NEON seen on the attached image are the effects I used on a solid bg and mp4final Ver.

my 3rd vignette is based on my games moodboard. For this I wanted to recreate a retro game and mix the pixel art style with a modern glitching effect. This would be achieved by the game speeding up till the point of crashing seen in the image attacted (PONG1) I started with basic shapes made within after effect (AE) and animated them using the timeline. next step was to adjust and use an effect to pronounce the crashing of the game

My 4th vignette was to be focused on computers, and the idea was to create code that would text on a screen. This could be helpful down the line for my FMP as i am making a game with text cutscenes.

Again, I wanted to create this from start to finish within after effects (AE), so i began with using a custom font i made using www.calligriphr.net and got to work on a new composition. I started by typing in the text onto a text box, clicking the animation tool and selecting the “Scale” option and reducing the scale to 0%. once that was complete i adjusted the script within the position option so that the box wouldn’t stay in one place while the text was being typed out.

pLine=sourceRectAtTime(time).height;
scaler=transform.scale[1]/100;
value-[0,pLine*scaler]

For my 5th and final vignette, I based this one around the pixels mood board. I was interested in finding out if I could turn a 3d object into a pixelated scene using after effects (AE). After searching the web for a short while, i came across a tutorial by ‘PremiumBeatby Shutterstock’

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raNGXDAfIZw) that showed me how to use adjustment layers within AE to create a pixel effect.

I began this process off by creating text animation in Blender and rendering out a looping scene. I then transferred the footage over to AE to adjust.

Attached to this post are images and mp4s of the process and outcomes.
